Pokémon booster box vs ETB vs booster bundle

By DexCompareUpdated prices checked

On this page5 sections

All three are sealed products from a single set. What separates them is how many packs you get (36, 9 and 6), what comes with the packs, and what each pack ends up costing. Here’s how they compare, with today’s prices from New Zealand stores.

What’s inside each

  • 36packs
A booster box (or booster display) is a sealed case of 36 booster packs from one set — the cheapest way to buy packs in bulk and the product most collectors keep sealed.
  • 9packs
An Elite Trainer Box holds 8–9 booster packs plus sleeves, energy cards, dice, condition markers and a storage box, and usually a set-exclusive promo card. It’s 9 packs in Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution sets, 8 in Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon and XY sets.
  • 6packs
A booster bundle is six booster packs from one set in a single sleeve — a lower-cost step between loose packs and an ETB.

Pack counts from the publisher’s product listings, as recorded in our data. The full list is in how many packs are in each product.

Each store’s listed price, excluding shipping. An ETB’s extras aren’t priced in: its per-pack price is the whole box divided by its packs. Every set, by price per pack →

Which one suits you?

There’s no single right answer: it depends on how many packs you want, whether you’ll play, and how much you want to spend at once.

You want lots of packs from one set
A booster box: 36 packs in one go. Compare its price per pack with the others above before you buy.
You’re starting to play, or buying a gift
An Elite Trainer Box. Alongside its 9 packs come sleeves, energy cards, dice, condition markers and a storage box, and usually a set-exclusive promo card.
You want to try a set without a big spend
A booster bundle: 6 packs, the fewest of the three.
Price per pack matters most
Check the tables above, set by set: the cheapest per pack is marked, and it depends on what stores charge today.

Sets sold without a booster box

These 16 sets were never sold as a 36-pack booster box: their packs come in other products, such as Elite Trainer Boxes, bundles and collections. A “booster box” of one of them is a lot a store has made up itself, so we don’t list it.

Where to buy

DexCompare puts New Zealand stores side by side: each one’s own listed price in NZD, excluding shipping, ranked by price and stock. Stores pay nothing to be listed, and commissions never change the order.

Buying from a store you haven’t used before? Check its contact details, delivery costs and returns policy first, and check the shrink-wrap and seals when your order arrives.
